In the fall of 2022, I sought a creative outlet that would allow me to produce something meaningful for my family. My aim was to create items that could be cherished, much like the crocheted baby blanket my mother made for me—a treasured possession I still hold dear. This blanket, which has comforted me and my children throughout the years, is irreplaceable and embodies the love of my mother, who passed away in 2015.
Although she was able to make my son a blanket in 2010, her illness prevented her from crafting one for my daughter after she was born. Inspired by the memories of my mother’s handiwork, I decided to explore crocheting myself. I purchased a crochet book and gathered essential supplies from a local hobby store, including crochet hooks, yarn, and yarn needles.
Upon returning home, I immersed myself in the craft—reading the book, watching YouTube tutorials, browsing Etsy for inspiration, and following various crochet styles on Instagram. With determination, I began my journey into crocheting, hoping to create pieces that would resonate with my family in the same way my mother’s creations did for me.
After getting comfortable with my skills, I created my Hexagon Cardigan pattern. I sold cardigans locally in the St. Louis, Missouri area and kept myself busy. Then, on October 17, 2023, I received a surprising phone call from a customer who had become a friend. She had just met Jason Momoa, and he LOVED the cardigan I had made for her—so much so that he asked for my information!
The next morning, Jason was messaging me, asking me to bring whatever I had in stock to him. His interest in my creations marked a significant turning point in my journey, which had only begun months earlier. My friend wearing her cardigan was a tremendous blessing, and I soon found myself creating cardigans in a myriad of colors for wonderful people all around the world. The experience transformed my hobby into a thriving passion that connects me with others globally.
